Harriet Skully — Skin: Blood: Lymph – A Katatomy Through the Philo-Systems

Hey Everybody,

The next Knowledge Exchange Lecture will be:

SKIN: BLOOD: LYMPH – A KATATOMY THROUGH THE PHILO-SYSTEMS
HARRIET SKULLY

THURSDAY (4TH OF DEC) AT 16h00-17h00, RHB 343 (GOLDSMITHS)

ABSTRACT
Through the use of fictions, pseudo-mathematics, Junky-aesthetics, quack biology, and residues of demonic schizoplasm—this presentation shall proceed via a bricolage of theory, fictioning, aesthetics, avatars, secret codes, and imaginary lies; exploring notions of debt, addiction and the demonic, via the three layer systems of a philo-aesthetic body. Tracing its operations, scoring its materialities, and aligning with its collapse. Demonstrating that collapse is built into the very sinews of the philo-bodies’ so-called defensive mechanisms, for the outside (as demonic-operation) comes from “without by rising from within” (Anti-Oedipus, 168).

We shall enact a speculative biopsy, or rather a Katatomy; not hierarchical—but going in every direction, moving with the viroids, the excess fluids, and stray excretions. Encountering Junkies, Addicts, Demons—aliens, schizoplasms, feral organs—”avatars of absolute exteriority” (Cyclonopedia, 201). Through these encounters this paper shall consider the latent potentials of the aesthetic programs and temporal algorithms that emerge through collapse.

Harriet’s work looks at the temporal algorithms and philo-aesthetics of the Junky, debt, and the demonic—with primary focus on the literature of William Burroughs. Currently studying on the MA Contemporary Art Theory at Goldsmiths University, and performing with art-collective Plastique Fantastique.
